Celebrate Yourself Boss Lady!
Celebrate Yourself Boss Lady!
I have been a successful owner of a Financial Planning firm for almost 20 years. To create this success, I have sacrificed a lot in life. I sacrificed time with my friends and family to study, time with my children as they have grown, travel, general sacrifices.
I have taken many risks to get to where I am. I take a risk every day to not have a guaranteed salary, but on the flip side, sky is the limit.
I have also been a woman in a male dominated industry. I’ve had to wear suits to fit in and wear glasses and my hair up to look older. I’ve also had to be very conscious of the clothes that I wear so I don’t look like I am trying to attract the men and to be heard for my brain, not my looks.
As I’ve grown in my success, I’ve started to notice more judgment from others about the material things that I have in life. “Wow Deanna, it must be nice to be able to by another home”, “It must be nice to take your family on a skiing trip for a MONTH”, as if I didn’t work for all of this..
I started to realize that instead of people being proud of me for my accomplishments, they were judging me.
I remember when I bought my 1st car. I showed anyone who would look! Now I don’t tell anyone for fear of judgment.
I wanted to see if I was crazy for feeling this way, or if other women of my success felt the same. I interviewed several self-made millionaire women and very quickly found that I wasn’t alone. And this felt amazing!
I decided to create an event for 5 of us, including myself to celebrate ourselves. I hired an Atlanta published Photographer, a clothing stylist, makeup artist, hair professional, and a model coach. I hosted what I called a “Boujee Boss Lady” Photoshoot.
Although all these women could have afforded to do this for themselves, none of them felt worthy of this.
The day of the shoot I felt like a kid on Christmas Day! It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had!
Our society creates checkboxes in life- go to school, get a job, get married, have kids… But then what? Shouldn’t we be having fun?
I feel like many women look through magazines and think – “I love that eye makeup!”, “I love those heels!”, “I want that outfit!” and then they very quickly turn the page. Most are afraid to truly express themselves through their fashion in fear of what others may think or say.
The Boujee Boss Lady photoshoot with other like-minded women is a space to express yourself through fashions that you shove deep down in your mind. It’s a space to celebrate yourself and have others celebrate you. It’s a space to brag!
As I’ve entered my 40’s, I have started to notice that I care less about what others think. I have become more confident with my body and my style. Traits that I wish I had when I was a young girl.
After this experience, I began embarking on a journey to provide this magical adventure to thousands of people over the next season of my life!
I hope you'll celebrate yourself with other supportive women at one of our upcoming photoshoots!
